Meskipun namanya aneh, yang ini juga salah satu makanan favoritku. Makanan tradisional memang kadang-kadang memiliki nama yang aneh dan lucu. Nama makanan yang satu ini disamakan dengan tempat memasaknya. Karena di masak dalam kuali tanah atau candil dan setelahnya pun diletakkan dalam candil, maka dinamakannya bubur atau jenang itu Jenang Candil.
Penjualnya seorang wanita tua yang ramah, bertubuh agak gemuk tapi masih kuat, aku sudah lupa namanya, beliau orang Karang sari dan kalau tak salah beliau istri dari salah seorang pekerja di tempat kakek juga. Beliau membawa dagangannya dengan kain selendang batik, dan tempat jajananya terbuat dari bambu bulat, berlapis tiga seperti laci berdiameter ukuran kurang lebih lima puluh sentimeter. Kelak jika aku berkesempatan untuk kembali, aku akan menyimpan maksudku membeli benda seperti itu, untuk sekedar kenang-kenangan. Kata nenek mereka sudah menjadi langganan keluarga kami sejak lama, bahkan sejak kami belum lahir. Barang dagangan yang dijajakannya bermacam,-macam ,selain jenang candil juga ada bubur sumsum, berwarna putih dengan taburan gula cair encer di atasnya. Jenang candil sendiri, berwarna agak kemerahan karena dicampur dengan gula merah, dan berisi bulatan-bulatan seperti bakso, terbuat dari campuran tepung beras dan tepung ketan yang direbus, lalu dimasukkan dalam cairan Jenang tadi.
Yang unik adalah tempat sajiannya, karena tidak menggunakan piring atau mangkuk, melainkan menggunakan daun pisang yang dibentuk sedemikian rupa sehingga berbentuk seperti mangkuk kecil berbentuk kotak. Setiap kali nenek penjual itu datang aku selalu dibelikan baik oleh ibu maupun nenek, karena aku paling suka dengan kedua jenis bubur tadi.
Sebenarnya ada beberapa jenis makanan lain yang dijual, tapi yang masih kuingat adalah bentuknya bukan namanya, salah satunya makanan kecil berbentuk segitiga dibuat dari ketan dengan balutan seukuran daun bambu. Setiap kali kita membelinya penjualnya akan membuka lilitan tadi satu persatu, bentuknya kurang lebih sebesar ibu jari tak begitu besar jadi harus rajin dan sabar membukanya. Jumlahnya tergantung maunya kita, setelahnya barulah ditaburi dengan bubuk gula aren, bukan dengan taburan gula cair. Namun ada juga yang menyukai campuran dengan gula cair.Meskipun aslinya makanan tersebut dengan gula panir/bubuk gula merah tadi. Rasanya khas, legit dan enak.
Ada juga "oyek", makanan dari ubi yang diolah menjadi butir-butir tak beraturan, berwarna coklat, bercampur hitam dan putih dan dimakan dengan campuran ampas kelapa yang dicapur sedikit garam dan gula pasir putih. Satunya lagi yang juga tak kalah aneh tapi juga menarik, adalah "Canil", makanan bernama aneh ini berbentuk, maaf, seperti lintah berwarna-warni. Dibuat dari tepung ketan yang dipilin dan dikukus, dan diberi warna-warna dengan daun pandan dan pewarna makanan sederhana (aku ingat biasanya dikemas dalam kertas seperti amplop kecil berwarna agak transparan sehingga kita bisa melihat warnanya dari luar, dengan ukuran sachet kecil kurang lebih lima sentimeter). Aku sedikit tahu karena ibuku pernah membuat cendol untuk es campur berwarna hijau dengan pewarna itu, kata ibu tak berbahaya. Tapi entahlah, tapi seingatku di tahun-tahun itu tak banyak hal-hal aneh tentang makanan, apalagi makanan berpengawet.
Hal lain yang juga aku ingat tentang jajanan itu, aku merasa ketika jajanan itu kami makan, tak hanya sekedar jajan, tapi kami merasa diperhatikan terutama oleh ibu dan nenek. Pokoknya asal penjaja itu datang, kami pasti langsung memesannya tak peduli ada uang atau tidak. Paman pernah bercanda, enak saja panggil-panggil penjual, memangnya ada duit?. Kami hanya tertawa dan tak peduli, tinggalah nenek penjual yang kebingungan, ini jadi beli apa tidak, jangan-jangan tak serius. Tapi nenek selalu membelanya, jadi aku dan adik-adikku pasti jadi menyantapnya. Kenangan itu pula yang seringkali membuat kami kangen dan terkenang dengan nenek, karena sejak kepindahanku hingga nenek tiada, aku tak pernah menemuninya lagi. Itu di tahun 1978 kalau tak salah.
Aku juga teringat (bila aku mengingat itu aku merasa bersalah, karena bisa jadi itu membuat ibu malu) ibu kadang-kadang berkecil hati dan merasa tidak enak, karena hampir setiap kali nenek selalu membelikannya untuk kami, sedangkan ibu kadang-kadang juga tak tahu dengan ulah kami yang sedikit nakal. Jika melihatnya juga ibu tak berkomentar apa-apa selain diam, dengan wajah sedikit muram. Mungkin karena tak enak dan kasihan kepada anak-anaknya, meski kami nakal sekalipun.
Porridge Candil and Marow
